Finally Warm

seagulls-on-beach-2.jpg Wow, so 1 hour of sleep kinda sucks. I got up around 3am, more like 315am, to 2 alarms and it was SO cold in my room that I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to stay in bed so much in my life. I was literally shaking as I was getting dressed. I loaded my backpack and bag into the car and left around 3:45, checking the flight status on the way. I made it to Logan in about 20 minutes because there being no traffic is maybe about the only good thing about waking up at 3am. Economy parking was pretty much in South Boston, so after looping around and around for 10 minutes I finally made it and parked in the front row. I changed into my summer coat and luckily the shuttle bus was right there waiting for me. I got off at the Spirit terminal and got in line to get my boarding pass because for some reason the kiosks were closed. After waiting in line for a while, 1 began working or something and I checked in without an issue. Btw, I was wearing my sunglasses the entire time and with the exception of security, I didn’t remove them until landning in Myrtle Beach. I was a bit arly so I got some juice and watched some curb until boarding….then well, I think we sat on the runway for 2 hours. I had the entire row to myself (3 by 3 config). so I was fast asleep across the 3 seats. Something about de-icing…twice. I didnt have the strength to care. I don’t remember anything except landing in Myrtle Beach around 9:30am.

Dave actually landed bout 20 minutes later, with his flight being mostly on time, and we walked about 6 steps to the car rental place where I found out that I knew nothing about where we were (NOT near Georgia) and we got a white (yuck) Kia Optima. What a basic car that is, but certainly worlds better than a Chevy Aveo 😉 The Anderson Ocean Club was extremely close and took about 10 minutes to drive to. We drove along Ocean Blvd. and looked at the various hotels (the Gay Dolphin!!) and the general Southern beach-town feel of it all. Anyway, our destination was easy enough to spot, its the big yellow/orange building that’s brand new! Ha – so after parking in 15 min parking (ha!) we checked in and found room 1107. Um, wow. This place is just nuts really. The view tops everything though, just nothing but ocean from the 11th floor – simply amazing. If I lived here, I don’t know how I’d get anything done. So with such wonderful motivation, we decided to walk along the beach. It was nuts – the water was terribly cold, but the air was warm and just hours ago I had been too cold to even get out of bed! How great are planes!!!! After that, Dave’s parents had been talking about Magnolias across the street for some Southern food. Yea, they weren’t kidding. We both got the buffet and had fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy. How do these people eat like this all of the time!? It was very good and all, and btw I couldnt understand a world the waitress said which seemed to amuse Dave. After that, we found a supermarket because we had planned to cook dinner. Stir fly! Wonderful, someone who actually likes stir fry! We got a bunch of stuff somehow, fruit for the morning, chicken, shrimp, rice, juice, soy sauce. Shopping with someone else is so much better than doing it alone, same with cooking. It’s just so depressing making everything for yourself, there’s no one to impress. I hate that I just eat because I have to lately. Anyways, back at the condo, we got to cooking, with Dave taking the lead on the chicken of course because we didn’t have nearly enough sanitizing wash to make me comfortable touching it, and I worked on the rice and preparing the shrimp. Actually, he pretty much took the lead on cooking the actual stir fry as well, which was great! And it turned out really good! We had fun doing it and sat down with our meals (mine w/ peppers though) and glasses of champagne. It’s these little things that I like, just doing ordinary things that sometimes get ignored because everyone is so busy.

After that, it was time to head to the show! We found the way although there was some confusion as to the distance, but it was all very clear and the theater was this huge monstronsity that you couldn’t fit anywhere in a northern town. Course, there are 4 tickets and 2 of us, and this isn’t a city so we really can’t stand on the side of the highway and try to pawn them off, so we got extra room instead. We were, by far, the youngest people there. Hell, I bet even if these people’s kids had been there, we’d still be the youngest. The show started with a comedian and then the Christmas extravaganza began! Wow there are a lot of Christmas songs. I don’t know why they even bother calling it a Holiday show. We had heard it was a bit Jesus-heavy but actually I didn’t really think that was the case. It could have been a LOT worse with that. So anyways, the show was quite entertaining and it kinda got me in the Christmas spirit, which is pretty good timing I’d say because it’s in 2 weeks! Afterwards we went to Friendly’s for some ice cream, with Dave having that orange drink thing, and then headed back for hot tub fun! We sat in the hot tub for 10 minutes, just steps away from the beach with no one else around – it was a surreal experience. What a nice way to begin the mini-vacation!
