Sushi: Check

chandra-eats-breakfast-on-balcony.jpgI’m not entirely sure what happened this morning…there was some type of construction noises that started around 8am I think but I think Dave waking up pissed is what awoke me. Phone calls were made, I dunno, the noises stopped – sleep until past 10am. Pretty amazing really that for once we got to sleep. We had gotten fresh pineapple and marachino cherries and nutella yesterday so dave cut up the pineapple and we sat on the balcony dipping the fruit into the nutella. It was, again, surreal. After that, there was nothing really to do except for walk along the beach which sounded like the best idea in the world. We left our shoes in the condo stairs and started walking, taking pictures along the way and just enjoying the warm air, the sand, the relative isolation, and the ocean. There was a pier a ways down the beach and we made that our goal. Of course we walked to the end, with at least me wishing I had my shoes for that, and we saw people fishing off the pier and the condo way in the distance. It turned out that the pier was just shy of 2 miles away, so it was a good walk and I was hungry when we got back to the condo. We heated up the stirfry and rice and had another nice meal together with sounds of the ocean coming in through the sliding doors. We just hung around after that, relaxing, looking at the ocean, and figuring out our next meal. We didn’t have the opportunity for sushi on Saturday night, so we looked at places online and made a decision based on reviews written by people from Northern states and if the person who answered the phone sounded Asian. Quite the scientific process. Yamato was the final decision, which was at the place called Broadway at the Beach. We made 730 reservations and left much before that because we had decided to walk. It really didn’t look to far on the map. After getting a bit confused because the numbered streets aren’t very orderly, we made it there at exactly 7:30. It really wasn’t too far of a walk but the people we had asked seemed to think we were nuts for walking. I think they just don’t walk anywhere down here. They eat fried chicken and gravy, and they don’t walk. Ok, I’m going to try to avoida southern rant….so we got there and I was SO hungry. I started with edamame and we also got some shumai before the main event. Dave ordered everything, I had no idea. There was tuna, yellowtail, and salmon. I thought that sushi that wasn’t rolls was pretty scary, I mean it looks a bit terrifying. So not the case! It was really really good and I did my best to eat my share but it was actually quite filling. We ended the Yamato experience with some gong ringing and then it was time to go. I’m very excited that someone has pretty much made me try sushi, even though I was more than willing. It’s not something that I would order on my own, especially that non-roll stuff, but I’m excited to expand my options!

Back outside, we started walking around this Broadway at the Beach place which was like some type of disney park without as many rides and with less castles. We took pictures on some fake dinosaurs, got some candy, walked around a bit, and then took more pictures on all these closed rides. Dave on the pirate ship and the swings, me on the kiddie boats! Good times, really, and lots of good photos. We headed back, but we were in a different spot than where we started, so we got directions at another hotel. Ocean Blvd? What’s that? What was this person born and raised in this hotel? It’s less than 2 miles east! Wow, ok, I’ll try to avoid another southern rant. Anyways, we got walking and when we hit the ocean we decided to skip the sidewalk and go for the sand. There were seagulls everywhere! We decided to run through them because they were as dense as can be, and it was a memorable time running along the ocean in December with seagulls flying all around!

Back at the hotel, of COURSE we had to do the hot tub again. We brought down the rest of the champagne and sad there for a few minutes just relaxing. Somewhere there we finished the bottle and Dave decided that we needed to ghetto it up, so we just completely messed around with pouring water from the champagne bottle onto eachother and into the hot tub. I so hope that someone was watching. Who the hell am I? Well 10 minutes turned into 14 which was about 4 minutes too long and we went back upstairs and passed out. I don’t know how I did it, but I woke up enough to take a shower…then I woke up Dave to make him shower and we fell fast asleep. Absolutely wonderful day.
